New Adjutant General for the New Mexico National Guard

Sunday, Feb. 11, Brig. Gen. Andrew Salas, the Adjutant General of the New Mexico National Guard, will appoint Brig. Gen. Juan Griego to serve as Deputy Adjutant General.The ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. at the 93rd Brigade Headquarters drill hall, Onate Complex, 47 Bataan Blvd, Santa Fe, NM.

As the Deputy Adjutant General-Army, Griego will oversee the care, safety, accountability, welfare, combat readiness and deploy-ability of 2,900 New Mexico National Guard Soldiers. He will have command oversight of the Regional Training Institute to include numerous MOS qualification courses and NCO professional development courses. He will also provide command and leadership of two Brigades, ensuring they are equipped for deployment and meet the nation's and state's requirements and needs.

Griego has previously?served?as Land Component commander where he was directly responsible for training and readiness of Army elements of New Mexico National Guard, including safety, combat readiness and welfare of Army National Guardsmen.

In addition to?his duties, Griego will also supervise the Youth Challenge program which provides formal education to at-risk youth, as well as lead the Department of Military Affairs, the Civil Air Patrol, and the State Defense Force.
