Apple TV Is Unlikely to Launch in Foreseeable Future

Less than a month after the launch of the iPad mini, the Apple rumor mill has shifted focus back on an Apple television set. Earlier this year, we heard numerous rumors surrounding the potential HDTV set, including some that suggested the flat panel would launch before the end of this year. In fact, Jefferies & Co?s James Kisner and broad rumors suggest that an Apple TV set could potentially launch very soon.

??Our discussions with industry contacts suggest that at least one major North American multiple system operator is working to estimate how much additional capacity may be needed for a new Apple device on their broadband data network,? Kisner wrote in a note to clients. ?We believe this potentially suggests an imminent launch of the Apple TV.??

As we enter the latter half of November, however,?John Paczkowski per?AllThingsD suggests that an Apple television launch is most likely not imminent. Paczkowski believes that while Kisner is accurate when he says that Apple has been in negotiations with some of the biggest U.S. television operators, it does not imply that an Apple television is set for an imminent release. Paczkowski writes:

?For starters, Apple has already?steered analysts away from the notion that it will have something to say about a TV solution soon. More important: If Apple were close to launching a new service, it would almost certainly be in touch with TV programmers about new arrangements, and we haven?t heard anything along those lines.?

So while it look like nobody will have an Apple television set under the tree ? or on the wall ? this holiday season, it does appear that the product is still in Apple?s pipeline.
